The Following is one of the reasons why Edmiston Pools, Inc. will NOT install a Fiberglass inground pool...
The pool pictured above is a fiberglass inground pool that Edmiston Pools, Inc. has been contracted to remove and replace with a Custom Gunite Inground.
Things that went wrong with this fiberglass pool:
1. Figures A - C show how the fiberglass pool and the brick coping has raised up from the concrete patio about 5 inches. (We have seen them rise much higher; even up to a foot!)
2. Figures D - F show an "island" in the center of the pool that is NOT suppose to be there! In these three pictures the center of the pool is raised while the pool is almost completely empty. This is caused by water collecting underneath the pool and bubbling up the center of the fiberglass. This is the same reason that the pool and the brick coping has separated and rose up from the concrete patio in figures A - C.
3. Figure G shows how we simply lifted the entire pool out with a small excavator. Figure H - I show the poor plumbing along with the rain water/run off that was collected underneath the pool. The same water that caused the pool to bubble in the center and raise the entire pool, while full of water, up 5 inches! This is called "Hydrostatic Pressure". The process occurs when there is greater pressure underneath the pool than pressure inside the pool even when the pool is completely filled with water.
These few examples just go to show that fiberglass pools have very slim structural stability in our area. They just cannot withstand the ground movement caused by the freezing and thawing that occurs in the Midwest concluding why Edmiston Pools, Inc. will not and has not ever installed a fiberglass pool.
